That Friday feeling – www.strike-jobs.co.uk

brad

As a recruiter how does it feel on a Friday… generally a feeling of “phew the week is done” and then “good week, bad week, what have I achieved”, “did I make any money!”

You should think, “I got through it and I’m still smiling” 🙂

Sales and commission based jobs need to be hailed as “the tough crew”, “achievers”, “outside of the box thinkers”. Most of the time the Recruiter is blamed for almost everything, Candidates not turning up for interviews, not being truthful on their CVs, Candidates performing badly face to face. The brunt of everyone’s anger. I was asked recently why sales is so hard and what it achieves. My honest answer was, “If there were no sales people, the world would be a very dull and uninteresting place and nothing would ever be sold” seems fair. In my humble experience nothing beats a good sales team, vibrant, noisy, banter, laughs and giggles most of the time, ups and downs, generally a fun and exciting environment with a smattering of highs and lows.Back in the day the Recruiter and the Estate agent were called “Cowboys”. In that case lets take tip our cowboy hat and say “Here’s to us you’all”. Suzie Tobias. http://www.strike-jobs.co.uk MD

How intelligent are you ?

(The Gardner Theory)

So many times in my life has this question come around, almost daily. If people aren’t trying to work out your intelligence in the first 10 seconds of meeting you, then the next time they meet they do they have already made up their minds about you. They work it out on a scale of 1-10 based on your looks and what comes out of your mouth and if all else fails they check out your Degree on Linkedin !

Your intelligence is likely to be based on your job title and sometimes where you were brought up :

Let’s say you were from an underprivileged background, in a multicultural town with heavily accented parents. Right from the off, the general populous would judge your intellectual level at a glance based on those factors alone. Wrong.

Intelligence is based on 8 very different categories – and your level of education, surprisingly is only ONE of them.

Historically your level of education, (the location/bank of mum and dad school) in particular was an instant acceptance or rejection on  HR judgement day. Thankfully things have moved forwards with most Companies and HR departments now and they take a lot more into account during the hiring process.

So let’s start from the beginning:          What are the 8 signs of Intelligence

1    Academic Intelligence     The academic intelligence – shows an ability to absorb and retain information. To retain information and to be able to regurgitate this information in a different and more interesting manner than you absorbed it in by way of showing you understand the content and are able to analyse this information.

2    Interpersonal Intelligence   The interpersonal intelligence – the ability to interact in a communicable fashion, both listening, engaging and enquiring whilst both parties are “interested and interesting” (Quote: TedX Speaker – Olivia Schofield )

3     Linguistic Intelligence   The natural linguist – the ability to fathom  languages with a natural aplomb.(nice word) Not only to learn a language easily but to learn language nuances and dialects while understanding the flow of the language and composition of the grammar applied.

4    Musical intelligence     The musician – some say this one is the annoying one .. (“How come he can play every bloody instrument going- and plays by ear…! So unfair..) This is an excellent and exaggerated ability to hear music and create compositional music sometimes totally without the written word. Genius. Some say this may be born out of one of our senses failing and the other senses heightening to compensate. This could be another conversation. Emotional struggles and ability to interact in social environments can cause musicians to become insular and turn to music as a release – expression of music and words is a double attack and therefore extra special. i.e. Gary Barlow, Stevie Wonder.

5     Mathematical    Ahhhh yes – The maths geek. Dreaming about spreadsheets, excel configurations, they love it all. They have brain connections that are wired to code and map equations and algorithms to their hearts content. The joy of calculus excites every bone it their bodies. Some would say a breed apart, others mutter, “what’s all the fuss about, it’s obvious!”

6     Spatial – sculpture – art -colour- design  A natural ability to create and develop from ones inner imagination – sometimes from experiences or visuals around us. The develop flowing forms, colours and lines that are normally outside of one’s daily robotic behaviours. They possess a heightened sense of awareness of the visual art and a compassion for colour. “It’s just a maroon colour, nope it’s a light plum!”

7      Bodily – Athletic – Dancer  To be in touch with the human form -To understand the complexities of the body and its abilities to soar in its own light. Many dancers feel from within, as do athletes. They drive themselves to reach almost unachievable goals  and push themselves to the limit to be get perfection. Daily challenges, set targets, all the while adrenaline flowing. This is not only a body challenge but a mind and soul intelligence in the extreme.

8    Intrapersonal skills   You  might say the best form of intelligence of all. This is emotional intelligence, the ability to know, understand and manage your own emotions. Years ago, I used to look at senior people in companies and wonder how on earth they got to where they are. I once asked Mr Mark Cloutier (CEO Brit Insurance/Lloyds Board) what made him so successful.

Simple answer “common sense”. Says it all really.

Where do you fit in ?? (I’m a 2.4.6.8)

Do you really want a career in Recruitment ?

Do you really want to be a Recruitment Consultant in 2016?

“More Technical Wiz and online knowhow than Sales ability and confidence ! “

The Ups and the Downs”

The world of Recruitment hasn’t just changed in the last decade it’s a whole different game.

The days of the on-site agency interview and advertising in the press are pretty much dead.

Recruiting has moved so far into the digital arena that the personal contact is almost completely lost. Of course at the higher end of the market things are still following the traditional lines and trusting the Recruiter is key but for the mass market things have sadly lost the cuddly approach.

So what impact does this have on the Recruitment Consultant? Most Agencies have great relationships with their Clients and this obviously creates a good working and profitable result but it’s not a one way road.

Dealing with the Client can be challenging enough but when you throw in another side to the coin it’s what’s I called a “two way sell”.

Take this example: Selling a house or a pen. Simple, you sell the pen and the pen doesn’t say “NO I don’t want to live with him”.  With Recruitment there are two factors to take into consideration, the Client and the Candidate. If we have now lost the personal touch what happens to the Candidates feelings.

Many Candidates feel cheated, neglected and frankly discarded by the rise of the Digital world and lack of face to face contact with the very same people that hold their careers and livelihoods in their hands. The functionality of the Recruiting process has become so automated, systematic and spreadsheet based, that key words are almost more important than the individuals we are searching for.

Is there a way to be more personable and still work with what technology has to offer?

Does Social Media really work ?

Does Social Media Really Work?

Having spent three years testing every social media portal, we have come to some very fascinating conclusions about how the psychology of the modern human really works.

We started with unique and interesting online content, from “you tube” clips to hand written pieces about world economies and political rants. This caused some interest but not really the huge social engagement we were looking for. The specific audience did respond to these but it was only on a small scale.

Albeit we did have some good Foot Stompers, political activists, Internet trolls and the General Grumpies.

Thinking outside of the box we then thought, well maybe going down the competition route, (everyone likes a freebie right?), well you’d be surprised!

Actually giving away free stuff to our catchment audience did catch interest but not as much as a dog playing with a duck…. Asking humans to put their thinking caps on and use a little brain power was clearly asking too much. The Lazy Human was born.

So we noticed that the general engagement across the net was geared towards Animals. Seriously take a look for yourself.

Yes Animals on slides, animals surfing, cats jumping and donkeys well, doing donkey things. (Nothing rude you understand).

It seems that the industry has taking on a more Harry Hill (You’ve Been Framed) attempt at slapstick and of course the general populous loves it…

We’ll continue to go down the educated, informative and current affairs route being a professional organisation with a responsibility to bring career advice and job opportunities to the fore whilst still anticipating how the world of social media will evolve.

Has the world of social media become a senseless and sensationalist medium forever, with platting hair videos, celebrity titbits and jumping horses… Or will it take another turn at some point?

The more important question is how will this affect how professional businesses market themselves on Social Media?

It’s NOT THE LOTTERY but you will WIN – £££

Load more jobs...

Posting Vacancies on-line websites or Job Boards or Job Advertising Portals really does make sense as the whole world is glued to their tech these days. Walking around with a CV looking for work and knocking on doors is so “80’s”.

The speed and reach of the Internet Job Board or Web Job Advertiser is immense, especially if you can reach all around the Globe at the click of a button. If you advertise One job with One Job Title the chances of that being found by anyone is almost nil. If you cover a wider net, different job Titles, different text, Unique content (Google love that) you can make a much bigger splash in the vast pool of Advertising on-line. As they say ,”up your odds”. Find a Job Board with multiple credits for advertising at a low cost. It’s totally worth the effort.

If you need help with different or generic Job Titles let us know here at www.strike-jobs.co.uk   strike-jobs.co.uk
